THE TELL - TALE HEART by Edgar Allan Poe

The tell-tale heart is a short story told by an unnamed narrator who tries to proove his sanety, while describing a murder he commited. The victim is an old man with a blind eye who seems to stay in the same house with the narrator. Although he states that he loves the old man, he hates his only eye, which he calls "evil eye", and this eye made him murder the old man. He has planned to kill him and for seven nights he opens the door of  the old man's room steadidly, but the "vulture eye" is always closed, not letting him "do the work". On the eighth night, he awakens and as the narrator saw his wide opened eye and heard his heart beating loudly, he finally murders him. The scream of the old man being killed was heard by a neighbour who reported it to the police and three police officers arrived to the house. The main character has nothing to fear, as he has hidden all the evidence and put the corpse under the floor boards, so he invites them in to take a look around, but he starts to feel uncomfortable while being on the spot where the body is. He hears the heartbeat of the old man which increases steadidly, but the officers seem to pay no attention to it. Terrified by the violent beating of the heart, and convinced that the officers are aware of not only the heartbeat, but his guilt as well, the narrator confesses...

'The Tell-Tale Heart' by Edgar Allan Poe

Poe is well known poet for his particularly weird taste of thinking. In this very poem he puts himself in the shoes of an everyday man who is driven to murder by an old man. The man does not provoke or inflame him, but his eye the so called evil eye by the yong man, makes him to think of murdering the peacefull old man. And there is no doubt in his mind that this is what he has to do. So without further thinking he goes every night into the chamber of the old man and watches him. But the eye-the vulture eye- is closed, giving no reason to kill the old man.And on the eighth night the inevitable happens. As he goes in the pitch black room he makes a sound, a tiny tiny inappreciable sound. And the old man awakes. As they stand there for hours, not moving a muscle, the old man's heart starts to race. In fear of neighbours getting awaked by the deafening sound the young man storms in and shuts the eye close once and for all.
